Cuttlefish's core expertise is in creating easy-to-use Web sites that are also easy to manage. Our in-house content management tools make extensive use of 'Open Source' technologies such as PHP, mySQL, Apache, and Linux and can be integrated with most people's existing systems and ways of working.
We are also fully conversant in accessibility standards, meta-data and CSS-based Web page design. We use a wide range of XML formats and technologies within our content management system and are able to easily integrate XML content 'feeds' such as RSS, Blogs, Podcasts and Video Podcasts in to our sites.
We have a forward-looking approach to understanding the Internet and are fully aware of emerging concepts such as the 'Semantic Web', 'Web 2.0' and 'Web Apps'. We often create Web sites that make early use of these new ideas in order to make them 'future proof'.
Cuttlefish staff also have broad design and multimedia skills and we are able to call on a network of freelance designers as and when needed. We have produced CD-ROMs, DVDs and audio CDs.
Finally, through our numerous workshop activities and presentations we have developed an understanding of how to explain Web design and multimedia concepts to users of varying skill levels.
Cuttlefish Multimedia Ltd has joined forces with Leicester and London media company Channel 2020 to form Calico Interactive Ltd - a new company specialising in Internet video and social networking.
Cuttlefish's Sean Clark, a Director of the new company says, "This is a really exciting time for us. Cuttlefish has been developing Internet technologies for over five years and this new working relationship gives us the opportunity to apply our expertise to completely new business sectors."
He adds, "We identified social networking and Internet video as potential growth areas for us about two years ago and we've invested a lot of effort in ensuring that our content management tools support them."
The first applications of this new technology were the Nintendo Life, ClickOnGolf and OnlineClassroom sites, plus the new Pineapster 2.0 music community.
Cuttlefish Multimedia will continue to run alongside the new company, with existing and new Cuttlefish clients benefiting from the extra resources and expertise that Calico will make available.
