Nintendo Life enters agreement with Eurogamer
Posted: Fri, 09 Sep 2011 12:36
Cuttlefish powered Nintendo Life has today entered an agreement with Eurogamer, Europe‘s leading independent games media specialist, to supply all advertising across Nintendo Life.
Nintendo Life was created in 2006 by Cuttlefish co-director Anthony Dickens, since then the site has grown substantially and now receives over 1.2 million visits per month becoming the leading Nintendo-centric website on the internet.
Built using the Cuttlefish cCMS software the site has scaled gracefully and continues in active development with a revamp planned later this year.

Record revision rates!

Every year it seems that all we hear is "exams are getting easier" - not so according to getrevising.co.uk - the site had 5 million page views and over 670,000 unique visitors this month - the highest ever figures and a real testament not only to the site's usefulness but to the students working hard for their GCSEs and A-Levels. Good luck to everyone taking exams this Summer from the Cuttlefish team :)

Cuttlefish Is 10 Years Old!
Posted: Mon, 10 Jan 2011 12:03
Cuttlefish is 10 years old this week! Yup, it's 10 years since I decided to leave a guaranteed monthly pay packet behind and start working for myself. Looking back the decision made itself. The company I had been working for was leaving me very creatively unfulfilled and I really had take my experience and expertise somewhere else.
I set up the business in 2001 with the simple goal of (as you can see on this screen-grab from the early Cuttlefish site) "exploring the creative uses of technology". This still remains Cuttlefish's core aim to this day (especially on the Cuttlefish Digital Arts side of things) and over the years we have brought our creative approach to the internet and multimedia to a broad range of clients from local authorities to large plcs, business and educational establishments, art organisations and individual artists. We've managed to handle almost anything thrown at us - be it websites, CD-ROMs, web services, e-commerce systems and or, as is increasingly the case, iPhone Apps.
One of the early hopes of working for myself was that I would be able to devote more time to developing my arts practice. This has certainly been the case and in recent years I've even been able to re-enter the world of research by firstly doing a research-led MA at Camberwell College of Arts in 2006 to 2008 and now working towards at PhD in Digital Arts at De Montfort University in Leicester. Of course none of this would have been possible without a great team back in the Cuttlefish office able to run things efficiently when I'm not available.
So, what do I think are the secrets of running a creative business for 10 years? Well, the first surely has to be getting a good team around you and learning how to delegate (which is tough). The next is believing in what you do and not seeing the business simply as a 'money making machine'. Lastly, I reckon, is knowing how to initiate and manage change. When I think how the web industry has changed in 10 years it's scary. Does anything work the same as it did then? I mean, we didn't even have Facebook.
Thanks to all of the clients, suppliers and friends who have supported Cuttlefish over the past 10 years.

It's that time of year again - the snow is falling and Santa's on his way. More importantly, there's mince pies in the oven and we've just opened a bottle of sherry.
We'd like to wish all our clients a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, with best wishes for 2011.
We're off home to spend Christmas with our families - a well-earned break if we do say so ourselves. If you're a client and you need to get hold of us urgently over the Christmas break, email us at support@cuttlefish.com.

Posted: Wed, 22 Dec 2010 12:44
Cuttlefish have worked with Wilson Bowden Developments for several years, along with sister company David Wilson Homes. By 2010 the website we'd built for them was in need of a refresh to bring it bang up to date and to reflect changes to WBD's corporate image.
They're proud of how their website now looks, and so are we!
A Successful Broadway iPhone Launch!
Posted: Mon, 29 Nov 2010 13:59
The launch of the new Cuttlefish iPhone App for Broadway Cinema in Nottingham went very well, with a packed room present to hear about how the website and App development has helped change the way Broadway sells tickets across the board. New Cuttlefish member Paul Fillingham presented the App from our perspective and feedback was excellent. Over 150 copies of the App had been downloaded 'pre-release' and as many again were downloaded over the following weekend. For more information about the App, and to download your own copy, visit our project page.

Cuttlefish has just launched an iPhone app for the Leicester Art Walk. The App gives information about the artworks that are currently being shown around Leicester as part of the walk, plus an interactive map of where to find them and the ability to read the "QR Codes" that are placed next to them. The App is available for free from the Apple App store.
