The Amazing Cuttlefish

Why Cuttlefish? We're often asked why we are called Cuttlefish and here is the answer from Director, Sean Clark:

In around 1995 I was looking for a domain name for my home page. Rather than going for the obvious "seanclark.com" I thought I would choose something more interesting. At the time I was working with a diverse range of people and the subject of 'cuttlefish' seemed to crop up in conversations a surprising numbers of times. In particular, the way in which these remarkable creatures use colour to communicate fascinated everyone who was aware of it. This, combined with happy memories of collecting 'cuttlebones' on the beach as a child, suggested to me that 'cuttlefish.com' would be an interesting and memorable domain name.

I seem to recall that it took me ages to register it, at the time domain names were still free, but the registration process involved sending various obscure forms to the States by e-mail that were auto-processed (or not) and sent back other forms.

If you want to know more about cuttlefish and their fellow cephalopods, such as squid and octopus, then there are plenty of online resources such as CephBase and Wikipedia. I would add - just in case you were about to e-mail us - I don't think we can help with your class project on cuttlefish, nor are we interested in buying a container of cuttlefish from a supplier to the Egyptian government, nor can we sell wholesale cuttlefish in the UK on behalf of Japanese companies, nor are we actually cuttlefish, as one enquirer once asked...
